ReportServer is open source and free to use. It has an active community and documentation and enterprise level support is available. The philosophy behind ReportServer is to enable users to getting the data they need when they need it and to provide administrators with the best possible tools for a given task. With that in mind, ReportServer offers a powerful ad-hoc reporting engine called the Dynamic List which offers everything from filters over aggregation to computed attributes. At the same time ReportServer recognized the need for pixel perfect management reporting. To this end, and without reinventing the wheel, ReportServer includes the widely used reporting engines JasperReports, Eclipse Birt and Crystal Reports® which are optimized to produce print-ready reporting and allows you to reuse your existing reports. ReportServer also includes OLAP reporting by integrating Mondrian as well as a reporting solution primarily built on Microsoft Excel. Working in teams is encouraged and supported and the powerful scheduler allows to automatic generation of reports at recurring intervals. Besides being able to choose between a variety of reporting solutions ReportServer offers administrators a scripting language which allows the generation of interactive reports as well as to integrate almost any datasource or event to extend the functionality of ReportServer, for example, to authenticate users against an active directory or any other existing user database.
