Therapists, web tool shaped just for you – WebPT

Therapists, web tool shaped just for you – WebPT

If you are in the healthcare industry, the primary goal is crystal clear: to help the people in need. Due to complex organization of human society in 21st century, there is more to medical business than just forming the diagnosis and treating the patients. Unfortunately for the professionals, timely and standards-compliant documentation, as well as some form of marketing, product planning, etc. are also inevitable part of the job nowadays. Certainly somebody has made a tool that would ease all of these sidekicks in rehab medicine, and in fact Heidi and Brad Jannenga did, so today we present you one software specialized in the field of therapy – and it is called WebPT.

The Basics

Just when you might think WebPT is just another program for creating Electronic medical records (EMR), you find out it is in fact quite specialized – WebPT was at first, as the name itself indicates, Web-based tool intended for physical therapist, but later on it widened its scope and now includes occupational therapists (OT) and speech-language pathologists (SLP) as target groups as well. The founders state their incentive to creating this System-as-a-Service (SaaS) software was to try to find a more economical solution to managing expensive documentation needs. Primarily used in fields of business process management and for document generation, WebPT has a “therapy-centric” design, as one reviewer called it. Any device with an Internet connection can be used as an access point to the WebPT (iPad and MAC also supported), so therapists and front-office staff have a 24/7 on the cloud. Of course, the online medical records require appropriate protection,  guaranteed by compliance with regulations from Medicare and HIPAA to ICD-10. The scalability trait makes it adequate option for all types of therapeutic clinics, since the size of the practice does not pose a limitation.

WebPT found its application thanks to customization: it possesses specialized templates for initial examinations and re-examinations, daily and progress notes on a patient, and feature named eDoc. The latter allows medical staff to upload and easily access different types of files relevant to service they provide. Some of it is expected, such as patient’s records and intake forms, but also diagnostic images (CT, X-ray etc), and physician referrals. WebPT also integrates your clinic’s schedule with your patient records, allowing you to save time and work more efficiently… Although intended for physical therapists in the first place, the range of services in SLP and OT modules is also impressive. For instance, speech-language pathologists are offered the following subjective fields: cognition, oral-motor issues, vocal quality, behavioural issues, while occupational therapists have these specialized items at hand: activities of daily living profile, disabilities of arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) test, hand and joint test, upper extremity functional test, shoulder pain and disability index…

Customer reviews

In the end, all that matters is the acceptance by the market. Firstly, on their website there can be found numerous interviews and statements issued by their clients, who obviously were satisfied enough to do WebPT this kind of favor. Improvement in organization efficiency, ease of use and less worries about documentation are in the spotlight as significant advantages gained through this software. Going further around the Internet, the pros seems to be same and users were generally pleased (eg, its rating on softwareadvice.com is 4.1 (out of 5), with 70 reviewers). Meanwhile, complaints are mostly about the difficulty to obtain notes from another clinic and the fact subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) format for notes wasn’t implemented. On the other hand, some of the reviewers commented it was obvious a person with experience in the specific field is behind WebPT. The integration of the patient records and your clinic’s schedule proved to be a warm-welcomed feature, along with the available free upgrades, which were praised as a fair move considering the tradition of additional payment for the majority of software tools.
